Angie Capps, Owner/Artist

My name is Angie and I am an Artist. I was born and raised in Washington State. I grew up in Tacoma and have been artistic for as long as I can remember. I am a self-taught artist and have always loved to be around creative jobs and people.

In 2004, I started my own wall painting business, Murals By Angie. I have painted hundreds of walls (residential and commercial) over the years. During this time I have had a few jobs to help support the ‘starving artist’ status.

In doing other jobs along with painting wall murals, I realized that I am best working for myself and doing what makes me most happy – creating and painting. Through different paths and learning experiences, I decided to follow a life long dream of owning my very own Art Studio!

This is where I am today, living a dream and sharing it with others! I am so excited to be doing what I have always wanted to do, and living a creative journey!

Art Studio 27 is a place where people of all ages can come and tap into their creative side. If you do not think you have a “creative side,” it is my job to inspire the inexperienced to relax, have fun and realize that painting is not scary and can be very fun!

For the artist who is experienced, this is a place to be inspired and challenge your abilities to grow.

Art is important, and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to live in color!

Looking forward to painting with you!

Melissa McKinney, Instructor

Hi! I’m Melissa McKinney, but you can call me Mel! Most of my friends do. I’ve been crafty my entire life! I paint, sew, create gifts from scraps, I love to color and make cards. I have two children, both are also artistically talented as well. I was taking classes at Art Studio 27, for over a year. Mainly to have the excuse to paint and also to hang with my friends and visit with my long-time pal, Angie! When she opened up the request for help teaching classes at the studio, I jumped at the opportunity. I treasure the moments we all share at this studio. The Art we create and the laughter and time shared with friends are beyond measure. I work full-time as a Driving Instructor, but helping others create Art is my passion! (also, way less stressful!) I’m excited to meet you and help you have a fun time creating art.

Jenn Lauer, Instructor

I am a mom of three amazing children, teach preschool full time, and enjoy creating metal art, gardening, singing, hiking, and just about anything outside when I am not working!! I was born and raised in Tacoma and enjoy calling the Pacific Northwest my home!! I look forward to painting with you!! Blessings!!

Maggie Perrault, Instructor

Hello future artists! My name is Maggie. I am a graduate of University of Missouri with a Bachelor degree in Fine Art. My passion for art emanates from how the act of creating brings out individuality in a visual form. Creativity is in everyone, and should be celebrated more. Come to Art Studio 27 and paint with me. Let’s create art!

Kristi Nicole, Instructor

Hello! I’m Kristi Nicole! I’m a Tacoma transplant all the way from Atlanta, GA where I dreamed of becoming a professional artist my entire life. I attended a 2 week arts camp at Brenau University for 4 summers and knew that I wanted to go all-in and study at the college level. I attended Kennesaw State University for Fine Art Studio (Drawing and Painting) and later switched to Art Education my junior year. Today, I am thankful to live in Washington, a place that is rich with inspiration from it’s varied landscapes. In my spare time, I’m spending time with my two boys, selling real estate, running on Ruston Way, climbing mountains and snowboarding down them! I love living life to the fullest and sharing my knowledge and experiences with others. Cheers!
